Estonia – ENED
The first conference on educational development in higher education in Estonia, titled “University teaching as a Scholarship?”, has taken place in January 2011
The conference attracted more than 350 participants mainly from Estonia and from the Nordic countries. The idea of organizing the conference was greatly inspired by our participation in ICED and several plenary speakers were invited as we met at the ICED conference in Barcelona. We would like to express our gratitude to the SWEDNET and especially to Dr. Klara Bolander-Laksov for their support. The list of the keynote speakers included Kirsti Lonka, Jacques Lanares, Gerlese Åkerlind, Torgny Roxa, and James Groccia. A special issue of a journal will be published on a selection of presented articles.
Life is beautiful and so are the developments in educational development in Estonia. Altogether, around 160 different trainings took place with more than 2000 participants. Maybe it is one of our biggest challenges is to meet the expectations of our most inspired lecturers?
We plan to keep promoting the ideas of scholarship of teaching in Estonia. During 2012 we would like to be well represented at the ICED conference and to prepare for our next national conference, which will take place in Tallinn, Estonia, in January 2013. It will be held together with the meeting of the Nordic Network of Educational Development.
